The United States Voted Against A Resolution Condemning Nazism And Racism
The UN General Assembly on Thursday,December 16,2021 adopted a resolution proposed by Russia and more than 30 other countries to condemn Nazism,neo-Nazism and all forms of racism, but the United States and Ukraine were the only countries to vote against the resolution. It was reported that the resolution was passed with 130 votes in favor, two against and 49 abstentions. The countries that abstained from voting on the resolution are largely US allies. Russia's UN envoy tweeted: "The UN General Assembly approved by 130 votes the Russian resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism,neo-Nazism and other practices that give rise to new forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and dogmatism." "Opposition and 49 abstentions passed." Moscow has long been at loggerheads with Ukraine and three Baltic states,Estonia,Lithuania and Latvia, over its support for individuals and organizations linked to Nazi Germany during World War II. Russia's proposed resolution calls on member states to "eliminate all forms of racial discrimination through all appropriate means, including legislation." The United States has voted on the resolution since 2015 and the United States has voted against it every year.
